PENALTY FOR RAGGING AS PER THE PREVENTION OF RAGGING
IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTES ACT OF TELANGANA LEGISLATURE

Ragging is an act, which is likely to cause insult or annoyance or fear or apprehension or threat or intimidation or outrage of modesty or injury to students. This is a heinous crime, which is uncivilized and demonic. There are instances when some psychologically weak students have committed suicide in engineering colleges because of ragging. Ragging is prohibited within or outside the educational institutions. The salient features of Telangana state legislation and punishments for indulging in ragging are as follows.

SUSPENSION OR DISMISSAL OF STUDENTS FROM THE COLLEGE
- If a student commits suicide due to or in consequence of ragging, the person who commits such ragging shall be deemed to have abetted such suicide.
- Ragging is a cognizable offence and police can arrest any student indulging in ragging either from institute premises or outside without a formal complaint from anybody.
- The police will observe in mufti (in plain clothes), in the buses, bus stands and campus of educational institute.
SOME ANTI RAGGING MEASERES
- Our staff members are formed into groups to be at various important bus stop locations and they travel in the buses. Any problem can be reported to them. Otherwise, they can also go to the Academic Section in the college and identify the culprit by going through the photographs.
- The teachers and non-teaching staff of the college are formed in to squads to go to important locations in the campus.
- Enquiry committees are immediately formed to give punishment to the culprits.
